Minas Gerais is one state that introduces many
choices when the subjects are caves-spaces that
keeps evidences from remote past of our ancestors.
Minas Gerais is considered the cradle of Brazilian
Paleontology because of fossils that had been
discovered, in the caves. There are rupestrian
paintings and in special the “Man of Lagoa
Santa” one of the oldest human ancestor
in America.
In Lagoa Santa there is “Lapinha Cave” one
of the most well known in the state. It has 40
meters depth and 511 meters in extension with
limestone formation.
“Rei do Mato” is also a cave near
of the city of Sete Lagoas. It has 50 meters
depth and 220 meters length which large profusion
of rare speleothems. There they had been found
rupestrian paintings and native Indians tools.
“Maquine” cave is the biggest one.
It is in the city of Cordisburgo Guimarães
Rosa the famous writer and poet was born there.
Maquine Cave is an impressive cave with seven
rooms where stalactites and stalagmites crated
elegant formation complex. We can give wings
to our imagination in the place. In the cave
they had been found rupestrian paintings and
pre historic animals fossils like Tiger Saber
Tooth, Giant Sloth.
